Animal Phyla - Even - Nematoda

The phylum of Nematoda have members that are worms that are invertabraes that are usually called roundworms or nematodes.
- Most of the roundworms are free-living within moist soil, but the others are parasites to many plant and animal species.
-The phyla Nematoda is one of the largest phylas.

These roundworms of this phyla have a bilateral symmetry since their body plans left side is the same as the right side.
DID YOU KNOW that members of the Nematoda are called round worms because their bodies are long and cylindrical.

Nematodes have a complete digestive tract with a mouth and an anus which means they have a castrovascular cavity that requires extracelluar digestion.
  • The mouth opens into a muscular pharynx that helps bring the food down into the intestine which is usually the lenght of the body. It brings the content into the anus.
  • They live on bacteria, fungi and plants. But some are parasitic and live inside a plant or animal. In animals they such the blood and tissue.
DID YOU KNOW that to distinguish between the Anus and Mouth is that the Mouth has two lines of tissue and the Anus has three lines of tissue.

The tissues are partially seperated by coelom.
They consist of a fluid-filled space between the
body wall and the digestive tract since they're
pseudocoelomates.

Interesting facts:
  • They can go dormant when conditions are unfavorable.
  • They don't have cicularatory or respiratory system so they diffuse oxygen through their skins.

What's the difference between a Flat worm and a Nematode?
A.) Flat worms have a colem while nematodes do.
B.) The Nematodes and Flat worms mesoderm touches the endoderm
C.) Flat worms are acoelomates while Nematodes are pseudocoelmates
D.) None of the above.
